RECREATION LEADER CITY OF ASTORIA, OREGON POSITION SUMMARY Astoria Parks and Recreation is looking for a Recreation Leader to assist with the softball season, summer camp, sports camps, special events and other recreation related activities.
Recreation Leaders are responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support Parks & Recreation programs and events including the planning, preparing, and implementation of theme-based day camp activities, youth sports, special events, and community programs.
Youth engagement activities include sports and games, arts and crafts, and field trips to local attractions.
Recreation Leaders actively engage and interact with children while remaining vigilant and monitoring all participants in their care throughout established program hours.
The Recreation Leader is responsible for daily oversight of all participants to ensure that they are in a safe and healthy environment at all times.
Recreation Leaders will be assigned to support special events, such as Free Movies in the Park, Sports Tournaments, or other community activities, as needed.
SCHEDULE This is a part-time, seasonal position which will work from approximately April 15th to September 1st, 2024.
The regular schedule for this is Monday through Friday with occasional weekends, 2-6 hours per day.
KEY QUALITIES Ability to communicate effectively with youth, parents/guardians, community members, co-workers and supervisor verbally and in writing.
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Ability to lead as a positive role model and safely oversee groups of up to 15 children.
Basic knowledge of recreation programs, camp activities, or classroom settings for safe oversight of children.
Knowledge of sports and physical activities appropriate for children.
Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures and ability to perform calmly and effectively under pressure in emergency situations.
Ability to take initiative and make independent decisions within the scope of authority.
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in program or routine.
Ability to enthusiastically plan and lead activities.
Ability to use recreation, childcare or other program-related software.
Ability to follow the program guidelines and perform to standard.
PAY $15.
50 - $17.
25 per hour.
Pay rate will depend on experience.
